What message to what audience to achieve what effect through what means?
- That four-step process has been the foundation of our communications approach for several decades now. It sounds simple. And it is. But often, in a rush for success, clients unknowingly eliminate a step – or two – or three.
- For example, have you heard these quick communications solutions, or a variation on these themes? “We need some Facebook ads and a TikTok presence” or “Let’s increase our broadcast buys in the dayparts when our audience tunes in most” or, “The CEO needs to reach out to key stakeholders.”
- Those all sound good. But unless you are clear about your message: concise, simple, emotionally engaging; and to whom you are speaking, including such factors as age, gender, income, interests, psychographic profile (please be as precise as possible), then you may be wasting valuable time and resources.
- Plus, unless you are clear about those initial two points, message, and audience, you really aren’t ready to determine the final two: to validate what your goals for successful communication are and selecting the best means to achieve them.
